Update from the Principal

A look into our first week into Term 3

Kia ora Parents /Caregivers,

Welcome to Term 3

We hope that you have been able to have some quality time over the holiday break. The children have started well this week despite the inclement weather that we had at the start of the week. We endured surface flooding and restraints to some of our access ways but over all our children in their gummies were able to get to their classrooms well and stay dry. Hope you are nice and dry at your place.

  • Safety with Devices

If your child has a phone we encourage you to check the history on a regular basis. We have had some recent inappropropriate use of phones at home where children have been causing harm to others. Unfortunately this type of behaviour spills over into school life and invariably causes problems at school. Netsafe has some good advice for parents here particularly around the use of the social media app TikTok. As a rule of thumb young people need to be 13 years and over for membership on these sites.

  • Teacher Only Day Reminder this coming Monday 1 August

Thank you for your support here as teachers complete valuable Professional Development to ensure that your children have the best learning in learning opportunities.

Our next Teacher Only Day is on Monday 22nd August. Mash is available if required - please call them directly to book in.

  • New class started in the Junior School - Room 7

Welcome to Becks Tait and Sheryl Lang who are teaching in this class from this term. Becs and Sheryl have both spent time over the last 2 terms working in the Nest, so have developed great relationships with the students. We look forward to the children in this class continuing their learning and achieving great things with their new teachers.

  • Welcome to our new children this term

We welcome all the new children and their families that have started this week at QPS. We have a number of new entrant children and some who have come from other schools. We wish you all a very warm QP welcome.

We trust that all these children have started well and already have made some new friends.

Here are some things that 3 of our new students loved about their first week at school:

- Sullivan said he loves playing in the family corner

- Louis said he loves playing with cars and making new friends

- Ollie said he loves playing new games with friends

  • Learning Progress Meetings

A reminder that mid year learning progress reports are being sent out today. You can access these via your Hero account. We encourage you to book a time for a zoom or phone discussion with your teacher as per the information sent out this week. We look forward to productive discussions about your child’s learning during these times.
