BYOD @ QPS in 2024

Queenspark School —

Please read and sign our BYOD School Agreement prior to starting at Queenspark School. Please return this signed agreement to your classroom teacher.

Dear Parents /Caregivers of Year 4-8 students in 2024

In term 4 each year we offer our Year 4-8 students for the next year the opportunity to purchase their own Chromebook to be used at school and at home to support their learning.

We would like to offer you the opportunity to have your child become part of the BYOD Chromebook programme for 2023 and the rest of their time here at Queenspark School - Te Hua Mānuka.

We have partnered with the company PB Tech for our BYOD purchasing.

They have offered us some really good prices on Chromebooks and are dedicated to supporting Queenspark School - Te Hua Mānuka with our digital technology needs. PB Tech offers a great service and a great range of digital solutions. Purpose Students use digital tools in all areas of their learning where it is appropriate and beneficial. The use of digital tools and understanding how they work is now a part of the New Zealand Curriculum and is expected to be taught in every New Zealand classroom.

The Ministry of Education fully supports the use of Chromebooks in schools and funds the console licenses for student accounts.

Why BYOD?

In order to give your child maximum opportunities to access digital technology in the classroom, we promote students having their own Chromebook to work with. This means they do not have to wait for classroom devices to become available in order to conduct their learning and they can set it up specifically for their needs.

This also allows their learning to continue at home with you.

Device Type at Queenspark Te Hua Mānuka

We only offer support to Chromebook devices. If you plan to purchase your device elsewhere, please check with the retail outlet that it is a Chromebook device you are getting before you purchase. Due to our student account setup and security network, we DO NOT accept any other devices for our school BYOD. Options There is no expectation that you purchase a Chromebook for your child. We can still provide students without devices access during the day. This may be limited and not regular depending on the demand and availability. However, it is recommended that students do have their own device for their learning as it would remove any barriers around device access and provide them with a learning tool that they will have for the rest of their time here at Queenspark School - Te Hua Mānuka.

Ways to purchase a Chromebook for your child:

The Chromebook you purchase for your child is for their use only and you will not be able to set up multiple accounts on it for other family members to use. The school console license will not allow you to create multiple accounts while it is used at Queenspark School- Te Hua Mānuka. This can be changed to another child’s account if the device is passed onto someone else in the school.

There is a small additional fee of $15 to have the console license installed onto the device and this will be added to your child’s account.

The console license allows the Chromebook to connect to our Queenspark Student network and then gives them all the benefits of our firewalls and security systems while at school, and allows the Chromebook to talk to our network effectively. Chromebooks without this license will not be allowed to be used at school.
