Winter Tournament ⚽ 🏑 🏈
On Friday 12th August, our Winter Tournament teams headed off to take on schools from the East, to earn the right to represent our Zone at the Canterbury Winter Tournament.
Queenspark School has traditionally competed extremely well at our Zones Competition and 2022 was no exception. With rain the day before, we were worried that the Council would once again dampen our spirits and close the grounds. Alas, when curtains were thrown open on Friday morning, a blanket of frost could be seen covering the ground. And as we all know a hard frost in Christchurch means a beautiful winter day was in store for us.
The bus ride to the tournament was boisterous with excited tamariki eager to go into battle against our rivals. The bus ride home was just as loud with children celebrating their victories (or just being happy with an afternoon away from school).
As always, our students stepped up and competed with pride. They showed their Personal Best and win, lose or draw, always demonstrated our Queenspark School 3Rs toward their opposition and officials.
Out of the seven teams we took to the Zone Winter Tournament, five will be going through to represent our Eastern Zone at the Canterbury Winter Tournament later in the term. They are:
Junior Football came 1st
Junior Hockey came 1st
Senior Hockey came 1st
Senior Football came 3rd
Senior Netball came 2nd
In addition, the Junior Rugby team came 2nd in their competition, but only one team can go through to the Canterbury Winter Tournament in this grade.
A big thank you must go out to the coaches, managers and referees who helped with the teams and also to whānau who came out and supported us 🙌
