URGENT

Home Stay Families wanted - please contact the office ASAP if you can help

We are urgently looking for home stay families for some groups coming to study with us in July and August this year.  We have the following groups coming from China:

23rd Jul - 9th Aug (3 weeks - 21 students)

23rd July - 16th Aug (4 weeks - 30 students)

 29th Jul - 3rd Aug (1 week - 26 students)

There is to be 2 students staying in one home stay (more if you wish but no more than 4).  Students are able to stay in one room as long as there are 2 beds.  Payment to you is approximately $560 per week based on 2 students (price to be confirmed).  You may know of other people, family, neighbours etc that would like to host students also.  Please direct them our way.  The requirement is one separate bedroom with 2 beds or a bed and a stretcher or fold out bed would be suitable.

This is a great opportunity for your family to host a child from another country.  Our students that have preciously had this experience absolutely love it and even make life long friends!

If you want to know anything extra please come our way.  Happy to answer any questions you may have.

Please contact the office if you are able to help us.  Thank you 😀

2019 Board of Trustees

BOT elections - Acknowledging our current Board of Trustees

The BOT elections coming up later this month. We want to take time to acknowledge the following people who have done a fantastic job as members of our Queenspark School Board of Trustees during the last three years:

Dean Taylor ( Board Chairperson, Personnel )

Steve Frodsham ( Self Review )

Reuben O’Callaghan ( Property )

Beccy Williams ( Community )

Greg Chapman (Finance )

Kylie Murcott ( Staff Rep. )

On behalf of the Queenspark School team we want to say a very sincere thank you to Dean Taylor and his team for the way they have served our school over this last board term. We are blessed as a school to have such a dedicated and committed group of people who are prepared to share their precious time and their good skills with us. All, so that we can have the very best in governance for our children at our school. Queenspark is a great place for children to come and learn, for teachers to come and teach and for parents to come and get involved and that is exactly what they all have done. We are truly appreciative of that.

On a personal note I want to say how enjoyable it has been working with our BOT team. Dean has brought superb skills in the way he has chaired our board and facilitated the strengths and expertise that each board member has brought. The tone for a great school starts with the relationship between the Principal and BOT Chair and I certainly have appreciated Dean’s support and guidance. Many of these people including Dean will be standing again and I am hoping to see good continuity. In the mean - time if you are thinking about standing for the Board of Trustees and offering your skills and expertise we encourage you to make a time to come in to discuss this with us.

Kind Regards

Ross Willocks

Principal

Thinking about becoming a trustee?

Our communities need great boards to help build great schools.

The membership of the school board includes elected parent representatives, an elected staff representative and the principal.

What sort of skills do trustees need?

Trustees are active leaders in their schools and need a balance of skills and experiences. They need to work well in a team, be able to put plans in place for the school's future, ask challenging questions and have good communication skills. It helps to have strong links to one or several of the school's communities, or an understanding of financial matters and the education sector, or experience in managing people.  We are open to the types of skills you can bring to our school.

What is a school board of trustees?

Every state and state-integrated school in New Zealand has a board of trustees. Boards bring families, communities and schools together to work for a quality education for our children.

The board of trustees is a Crown entity. It is the employer of all school staff and sets the school's overall strategic direction. The school's principal is the board's 'chief executive' and manages the school operations in line with the board's policies.

What does a board do?

Each school board of trustees has a very important role in making sure every child at their school is able to reach their highest possible standard in educational achievement.

Here are some of the things boards do:

  • Work with the principal and consult with staff, students and the community
  • Set the educational goals and strategic direction of the school
  • Monitor progress and inform parents on how the school is progressing against its annual targets and on the development of the students
  • Decide how the school's funding will be spent
  • Select the school's principal and support the development of all staff
  • Ensure the school is a physically and emotionally safe place for all students and staff, and is inclusive of and caters for students with differing needs
  • Oversee the management of staff, property, finances, curriculum and administration.

If you or someone you know would be awesome helping with the above please complete the form that was sent to you this week in the mail.  Or contact the school office for more information.

Note; nominations close Friday 24th May.  Election Day is Friday 7th June.
