Walter Peak Tour

Newsletter Publisher —

Our international students had an exciting experience travelling on the TSS Earnslaw to Walter Peak Station this week to participate in the farm tour, nature tour and show.

The students were amazed that the boat was a steamboat and that they used coal to power the vessel. On arrival at Walter Peak, the students went on a guided tour to see, feed and learn about New Zealand farm animals.

They were shown how to feed them and had enough courage to do it themselves. The Highland Cattle, Goats, Deer, Donkeys, and Alpacas sheep nuts getting a very wet hand from the animal's tongue. For some students, this was their first time seeing these kinds of animals.

After a quick hand wash, the students were treated to a superb afternoon in one of the dining rooms in the farm homestead, where some tried the very traditional scone and cream for afternoon tea.

They were then off to the woolshed to see a sheep being shorn and then watch some sheep being mustered into the sheep yards by a heading dog.

We thank the parents who joined us, Sharon, our English Language Support worker, and Mrs Lock, Deputy Principal, for making the day memorable.
