Queenstown Primary School Orientation Information
Your time of arrival is fast approaching. We can now supply you with further information to ensure your stay is an enjoyable one.
Your first day:
Please arrive at Queenstown Primary School at 8.30am on Wednesday 26 April.
Please note: Monday 24 April is a Teacher Only Day and Tuesday 25 April is ANZAC Day - a public holiday in New Zealand.
Who will you meet:
You will be met in the School Office by Ang Gibson our International Student Administrator, Sarah Ferguson our International Student Co-ordinator and by Fiona Cavanagh our Principal.
Parking:
Please note: Parking is very difficult to find and you are NOT permitted to park in the school car park at any time. We suggest you use the paid car park by the Public Library and walk 5 minutes to school.
What to bring on your first day:
Every day students will need to bring their lunch, a morning tea snack and a water bottle. School starts at 8.55am and finishes at 3pm. Please ensure your child knows how they are getting home.
Passport and Visa:
You will need to bring your passport on the first day so that we can sight your visa.
Devices:
Students are welcome to bring a device to school for the purpose of completing school work ONLY. Phones are permitted BUT must be turned off during class time. If your student has a device please bring these on the first day so we can set them up with passwords for the school Wifi.
Clothing/Uniform:
Queenstown weather is variable. Summers can be very hot and winters can be very cold. Please ensure your child brings warm clothes and a good raincoat.
Queenstown Primary School has a school uniform. All uniform orders are done online and require to be ordered prior to arrival as they take 5 - 10 days to arrive. Please note: we do not have uniforms for hire. CLICK HERE for the link to our uniform shop. Only students Year 5 - 8 are required to have the PE uniform. Shoes are required to be predominantly black.
Students in Years 1 - 6 must wear the light blue polo shirt. Year 7 & 8 students wear the royal blue shirts.
Parent Contact:
All parents must have a NZ mobile number prior to their arrival at school. This is important if we need to contact parents at any time during the duration of your stay. We also recommend downloading the QPS APP as this is a vital form of communication. Go to the APP Store and download School Loop APP and attached yourself to Queenstown Primary School.
We use the APP for the purposes of communication especially if the school is closed due to adverse weather. This may happen on your first day so please be prepared!
Traditional Clothes:
You are more than welcome to bring your child’s traditional clothing. Queenstown Primary school welcomes the celebration of cultures.
24/7 Contact:
On your first day, you and your child will be issued with our 24/7 contact numbers in case of emergency.

Travel Insurance:
You and your student must have Travel and Medical Insurance. We recommend using Southern Cross and the link to this website is attached. Please ensure you are covered from the time you depart your home until you return and you must have full cover for repatriation and expatriation. Stationery:
Parents are required to purchase stationery for their students. Stationery can be purchased online. CLICK HERE Please check your offer of placement to ensure you have the correct year level for your child. This can be done within the first week of school.
Sunhats:
Queenstown Primary School is a Sun Smart school. Sunhats are compulsory in Terms 1 and 4. Hats can be purchased for $18 in the school office.
Parent Contribution:
International fees are for in-class tuition ONLY. Once a term parents will receive via email a statement for additional activities that ALL students participate in.
