Principals Message - 30 June 2023
Kia ora koutou e te whānau
The last day of Term 2 has arrived and I am sure the staff and students are looking forward to a very well-deserved break. We are all looking forward to sleeping in without an alarm clock controlling our lives and school bells ringing. Attached to my newsletter today is a report from our Board of Trustees Presiding Member (Chair), Jeannie Galavazi. Thank you to the Board for providing the QPS staff with a sumptuous morning tea today, acknowledging our mahi this term. The Board has been working tirelessly in the background ensuring our budget is well managed, property projects are keeping to a timeline and support is provided for me to manage the day-to-day operations of the school. The term has seen progress made towards our site preparing for the demolition of classrooms and new buildings being placed on our site. The PTA have planned fun events for the rest of the year to raise money towards a new junior playground. Exciting times ahead!
Yesterday, I attended a special school assembly at Arrowtown School to farewell Chris Bryant who is leaving his principalship to a role at the Ministry of Education. I wish Chris every success in his new position as he has been an amazingly supportive colleague.
This week, I was interviewed for the Kahui Ako Wakatipu (KAW) leadership role. I have been appointed and am very excited about extending my leadership and working more closely with my colleagues. This means, from Term 3, I will be working 3 days per week at QPS as principal and 2 days per week working with principals and teachers across all schools in the Wakatipu. Matt Leach, DP, will be acting principal for 2 days per week for the next 2 years at QPS. I thoroughly enjoy working with Matt as he strengthens his leadership in preparation for leading his own school. A wonderful opportunity for us both!
I hope you all enjoy time with your children during the next 2 weeks. We have enjoyed our time with them as they are all wonderful human beings. Thank you for creating great kids who are respectful and show care and integrity at our school. Happy days ahead!
Ka kite koutou i te wāhanga o muri mai.
