Principal's Message - 21 July 2023
Nga mihi nui
We have had a very exciting week back at QPS. You will have noticed the property work taking place on our site. Jeannie Galavazi, Presiding Member of the Board has attached an update to my newsletter with a plan of the scope of works. Thank you, Jeannie. The Board has been working extremely hard in the background to get this modernisation project over the line with the Ministry of Education. They have spent many hours away from their core business which is appreciated by us all. Their support has been incredible. We are hoping to have our new modular classrooms ready to move into by the last week of the year. Teachers and students are looking forward to working in healthier classrooms fit for purpose. A long time coming!
Next week we hope to see you at the 3 way conferences. Please book a time to meet your child’s teacher if you have not already done so. These meetings are a wonderful opportunity for you to be part of your child’s learning goals and progress to date.
Last week, our kapa haka opened the Matariki Event at Memorial Hall. Once again, they performed with mana and dignity. I was so proud of them all and of the parents who helped to prepare them for the stage and support their performance. Our whanaungatanga was tangible. I acknowledge the commitment that Moana Thorn and Ata Maiava gave to our group prior to and during this performance. Ka pai mahi!
This week I began my role 2 days per week as the Kahui Ako Wakatipu (KAW) Leader. I have spent my time meeting all the key people and principals who are integral to the success of this organisation. Building positive relationships with all stakeholders will be key to ensuring everyone is aligned to the vision of strengthening achievement for all students in all of our schools.
Thank you to Matt Leach who has made an extremely capable start to performing as Principal each Thursday and Friday. Matt is an outstanding leader who genuinely ‘walks the talk” and does the business. He is well liked by us all. I wish him every success and have 100% trust in his ability. I will enjoy co-principalship with him.
I am looking forward to being Nanny Fi this weekend with my grandies staying with me to give my daughter and her husband a break. They keep me feeling young and we love our adventures in the wilderness together. I hope you have a wonderful weekend in or wee bit of paradise!
