Principals Message - 15 March 2024

Nau mai haere mai

Looking out my window the light dusting of snow on the Remarkables makes me think Summer has gone and the changing colours of our trees herald Autumn. Queenstown never fails to impress with its definite season changes and spectacular environment. Ten years ago I left leading a school in South Auckland to take up my principal position at QPS. I never thought I would be here for 10 years, however, what a special privilege to lead an amazing team and welcome our tamariki each day.

Times are changing for some of our office team after working at QPS for up to 14 and 18 years. At the end of this term we say ‘haere ra’ to Ang Gibson and Nicky Tall. Both of them have committed many years to our kura; from organising Camps, School Fairs, participating in EOTC with us, providing love, care and laughter in our reception area to bandaging cuts and grazes and multi-tasking every day. I will personally miss their wonderful support, loyalty and willingness to be part of our QPS Team. I will share with you how we will farewell them.

The Year 5 team returned from Moke Lake today after a very successful Camp. Thank you to Ben Wombwell for his leadership and to his staff and the parents that attended; you are awesome! It is a big ask for teachers to camp away from their families and I want you all to know how much we appreciate this.

Exciting times are ahead of us next week as we plan to open our junior playground. Some of you may have noticed the 2 astro turf courts are nearly completed and the carpark is being extended all at the same time. Southbase have been amazing to work with and are to be acknowledged for their efforts. Matt Leach has also been an outstanding leader supporting our property projects giving time, energy and attention to detail. Our Board of Trustees have worked tirelessly, in their own time, liaising with MoE, Southbase and QPS staff supporting the development of these projects. Whakawhetai koe!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Might see you on the trails as blowing the cobwebs off my bike.
