Deputy Principal Message - 22 March 2024

Over the last two years, QPS has reviewed the school behaviour management plan. This involved extensive consultation with our parent community and several drafts before we settled on our current plan.

Our behaviour plan is primarily based on students being in gold, silver, or bronze. Their name sits under each medal, and each day spent in gold earns a streak. Most of the students at QPS will stay in gold every day while at school. This means they are living and breathing our school values of care, respect, and integrity. If this is not the case, a student gets moved to silver and bronze. If you are not sitting in gold, you don’t earn your streak of the day.

As we approach the end of the term, classes will organise events to acknowledge positive behaviour and reward those students with high streak counts.

I have attached the behaviour management plan. It shows the steps that teachers follow when dealing with in-class behaviour. Every student gets two verbal reminders to change their behaviour before any move to silver is made. At QPS, we value using restorative practices of talking to our students and allowing them to make the right choice.

Monday, March 25, is Otago anniversary day, and school is closed. As we have previously communicated, there is a paid union meeting for teachers on Tuesday, March 26. There is limited supervision until formal instruction commences at 11:30 a.m. Buses will run two hours later than normal. Thank you to those parents who indicated they will send their child to school as usual.

This week, 78 students represented the school at the Wakatipu athletics camp. It was a great day of athletics action. Good luck to the 34 students who will represent the school at the Centre Otago athletics camp on Wednesday. I am sure they will do the school proud and give their best.

As a warm-up for House days later in the term houses got together for lunch. It was great to see the schoolhouses mingling and eating kai.

A very short week next week as we roll into Easter. I hope you enjoy the long weekend and find the time to connect with friends and Whānau.
