Principals Message - 5 May 2023

Kia ora koutou

After much time spent on ensuring our students receive their first DOT (Development of Talent) choice, the big day arrived today. More than 20 activities were offered to students in years 3-8 to participate in a favourite hobby, sport or drama and dance activity, to name a few. Teachers are ‘pumped’ and especially enjoy these days as much as our students. Thank you so much to parent volunteers and Matt Leach for his energy and commitment in making this happen.

Interestingly, the iroquois helicopter working on Skyline last Tuesday was not as noisy as we had been advised it would be. Teaching and learning continued and it was business as usual at QPS. We did enjoy watching the chopper attempt to place the pillars with precision. We also thought the men working up there deserve a pay rise as such a high risk environment to work in…come on Skyline! What an exciting time for Queenstown with the development of this project.

The ERO (Education Review Office) partner appointed to work with us at QPS over the next 2 years is Mike Fowler. Mike has already made several visits to QPS and will be in the school next week. We are working on confirming our school goals within a school improvement framework (Te Ara Huarau).

We ‘donned’ tiaras and crowns at our school assembly today and listened to our Head Student Leaders share information about the King’s Coronation tomorrow. A significant occasion in Commonwealth history.

Hope to see some of you at the netball and rugby tomorrow.
