A story from Te Waipounamu: Te Waka o Aoraki.
Aoraki and his brothers: Rakiroa, Rārakiroa and Rakirua set out on their waka to search for their mother Papatūānuku. What happened to Te Waka o Aoraki?
This is a short story of Te Waka o Aoraki, retold by Hākui Ripeka using the story and images from: Tales from the mythologies of Creation. Maui and Aoraki. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P6q8E1laQjY
Hākui Ripeka's Reo Pākeha groups chose a part of the story: Te Waka o Aoraki, to create an artwork using water paint, crayon and pastels.
Step 1: Blend colours to paint a background using water paints and a small piece of sponge.
Step 2: Draw and colour in a 2D silhouette for the foreground.
Step 3: Make at least one Kirigami (Japanese paper cutting) design to make part of the foreground 3D.
