TAERA - Rob Ruha

Rob Ruha —

"TAERA = Style, WHAKARUKEA = to whip, unleash, wield spontaneously without hesitation but with all the natural swag in the world."

I wrote this song the night before heading into studio. Took me about 20mins while I was packing my bag.

I mocked up a demo (just vocals and guitar) and flicked it to @fur_rory who wrapped a beat around it straight away.
The next day we workshopped with The Witch Dr boys (my band) and recorded it a few days later.

The song is about celebrating diversity and who ever it is you wanna be in the world.

The language is in the dialect of my East Coast people with a bit of Turehu, Tahitian and pidgin Maori to represent my roots.

If we are fast to embrace whānau with love and acceptance, our world will be an easier place to live in. When considering this in our current context, this waiata and its message makes a lot of sense.
