WĀHINE WHAKANUIA 2022

Sophia Clarke-Walker and Ripeka Paraone —

Celebrating special women in our lives ❤ “It takes a village to raise a child - it took a Pā to make Wāhine Whakanuia a memorable event.“

With the easing of COVID restrictions, Te Pā was able to open its doors on May 9th to celebrate all our amazing Mothers, Aunties, Sisters, Grandmothers and every woman that holds significance to our pononga here at Te Pā.

All around were happy faces, chatter and laughter, wooden platters displaying delicious sweet and savoury treats; decorated tables and walls provided a space for those gathered in the wharekai to catch up for the first time in more than a year.

It was a beautiful afternoon filled with so much love and joy! Mother's day is indeed a time to not only thank our own Mother's but also to thank other mum's, grandmothers, aunties and friends, as well as neighbours who are mothering and nurturing our tamariki. It does, indeed, take a village to raise a child and we are a testament to that here at Te Pā.

Ngā mihi to Whaea Dalice for initiating this event; Matua Keith and Matua Ollie for the veges harvested from the māra and the sauerkraut; Matua Pat for the homemade plum jam; everyone who donated baking, sweet and savoury treats to feed our manuhiri; Kōkā Hera for organising cameras to capture photos and the pononga from Waimarie & Uruao for capturing the photos; Whaea Saraya and her team for their support in the kitchen, and finally the pononga who volunteered to help vacuum/sweep and, set up the tables and chairs.
