2022 Handball Tournament

Ngaru Hepi —

On the 30th of August two Uruao pononga ran a handball tournament for the year 5 and 6 pononga, here's how it went

Myself and Alix Livesley from Te Waka Uruao ran a handball tournament for our health assesment. The tournament was aimed to target waimarie pononga to promote their exercise and physical health. This was continued from our handball tournament that we held last year two.

We held two different mini tournaments in an hours time. Each game had 20 of the pononga randomly generated and selected for eachother, making it as random as possible. With the help of our awesome refs from Te Waka Uruao, Te Ra Haangu, Sophia, Ngawai and ourselves we started the games!

The winners for the first mini tournament were:

1st place: Taihana
2nd place: Asitomani
3rd place: Mikae

The winners for the second mini tournament were:

1st place: Ziggy
2nd place: Nikau Kaa-Mackie
3rd place: Nikau Rerekura

Once we finished these two mini tournaments the winners of each placing versed eachother for the ultimate winning spots.

1st place overall: Taihana
2nd place: Ziggy
3rd place: Nikau Kaa-Mackie
4th place: Asitomani
5th place: Nikau Rerekura
6th place: Mikae

These winners were all gifted a prize!

Here is what some of the participants thought of it:

Kourage: "It was fun and very exciting, i didn't plan on losing my games but unfortunately i did. I can't wait to hopefully do it again next year!"
Quade: "I really liked playing in the handball tournament and i hope it continues every year."
