STEAM in ACTION

Jordan Cameron —

Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Maths

This term, Pūkaki has been so busy and I have had the pleasure to complete my first placement alongside Hākui Titi and Whaea Ana. We have been learning all about STEAM, Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Maths, in the form of waka topatopa (helicopters), and hekerangi (parachutes), learning about hau (air), kume (drag), tō ā papa (gravity), and matapae (estimating).

Tamariki had the chance to make three different types of waka topatopa and hekerangi to test using different designs and materials. They used the knowledge they have learnt in class to estimate the drag and how this would affect the speed of the drop. It was great to see them out on the papa tākaro testing their mahi and even sharing it with their teina in Hauaitū. Ka rawe koutou.
