Letter from the Editor
Something about me. The person that will be stalking you for the rest of the year..
My name is Savanah, I'm a mama of 2 beautiful tamariki. I run a business called Pīki Kids Club and I wrote this Mōkihi.
I've been around since Te Pā first opened, and every year has been different to the one before. If you haven't noticed, Te Pā is pioneering in "Doing things that normal schools don't even consider a possibility in a curriculum" - and that's the way we like it! As a consequence, I've been the go-to for random jobs around the Pā. I'm not sure how qualified I've been for some of these things.
2015
Pīki Kids Club opened, I was asked to take over Koka Ari's Dance class while she was on Maternity leave... Then I coached netball for the first time EVER! I worked in the Tari for a hot minute, then picked up mahi writing Te Mōkihi (through Mailchimp)... I even took pononga to Te Waiora - community gardens, every week to look after a plot.
2016
I worked as a kaiawhina in Waihora (which was then Yr 4-6, run by Hakui Ripeka, and then Koka Horowai).
I gave birth to my second child.
2017
Still running Pīki, coaching Netball again. Writing, watching Te Pā grow... I'm also a photographer now 😂😂😂
2018
Still writing Te Mōkihi - I found a pononga who wrote for and edited the Mōkihi so I didn't have to, Te Pā just doubled in size!! My family and I went to Canada for 2 months... I hired 2 new staff members - Pīki Kids is ready to grow and level up!!
2019
Here we are. Pīki Kids' future looks promising this year. I still write for Te Mōkihi. And today 3 separate people asked me for advice about things to do with technology and social media... All in one morning. See!? I don't know, sometimes.
I send emails fortnightly. I'll ask for photos and cool stories (ahem, Okains Bay people!!) And if you haven't noticed, I like to write... So send me your material via email, if you need. I'm happy to beautify your piece for you!
Articles are checked by Rangimarie and myself.
See you around.
Savanah, Pīki Haututū.
