For those who did not attend last year, Nōku Te Ao will once again be holding a special Hautapu ceremony at Te Oraka to remember those who have passed, celebrate the whetū of Matariki, and look ahead to the new year.

We will gather together before dawn around a blazing bonfire, beginning with karakia as the day awakens. Kai will be prepared and the steam released to feed the whetū, carrying our thoughts, hopes, and acknowledgements into the new year.

The Hautapu ceremony is a beautiful and moving experience that helps prepare our wairua for the year ahead. It is an opportunity to reflect on the past, honour those no longer with us, and embrace a fresh beginning with renewed purpose and positivity.
