Manu Kōrero ā rohe 2025
Manu Kōrero allows young students to speak and express themselves in the form of kaikōrero.
This competition promotes fluency in both Te Reo Māori and English, but also gives students the power to preserve our language and culture within our hapori.
On Thursday and Friday, our pononga from Te Puna Karikari and Te Waka Uruao went to support our speakers at the Regional Manu Kōrero Competition. Our pononga were all dressed up nice and smart in their Number Ones, ready to represent our Pā. This year's Te Manu Kōrero was held at Rangiora High School.
First up, there was the pōwhiri to welcome all the kura who came to tautoko the kaupapa. After lunch, our senior speaker, Sophia Ayers, took to the stage to do her Impromptu Speech. She held herself proudly, reflecting on her tūpuna and leaving it all out on the stage. Ka rawe e hine.
Next was the prepared speeches for day two. The day started nice and early for our pononga. Arriving at Kura at 7:30 am, our pononga and kaikōrero were excited for the day ahead. After attending karakia and watching the opening speech of the day, it was finally time for our senior speaker to take to the stage. Sophia took to the stage once again, presenting her prepared English Speech. She represented our Pā well and with ihi, wehi, and mana. Ka nui te mihi ki a koe, Sophia.
After a quick break for lunch, our juniors were given their call to go to the waiting room. Before long, it was up and onto the stage. Both Cina-Rose Jones-Fiso and Waihou Moka-Johnson stood strong in their kaupapa and represented Te Pā proudly. Ka rawe kōrua.
A huge mihi to our kaitautoko for the day. Our pononga supported our kaikōrero to the fullest and represented Te Pā well in the public eye. Mīharo koutou.
Karawhiua pononga mā. Tū ki te ao, tau ana.
