AWATA

Sophia Clarke-Walker —

New Māori made jewellery telling pūrākau from Te Ao Māori made by our own Te Pā pononga.

Have you ever felt disconnected from your culture? Do you wish you had a stylish way of showing off your Māoritanga?

As passionate and fierce advocates for Te Ao Māori we have realized that our people all over Aotearoa are being disconnected from our culture. Using our digital native initiative we have created not only the next fashion trend but jewellery that tells pūrākau from Te Ao Māori!

To kickstart our business we are focusing on making a range of laser cut earrings out of sustainable products, each telling a story or representing everything from atua māori, stories of Maui, historical landmarks etc.

Awata is part of the Young Enterprise Scheme that we are currently competing in.

You can find us on Instagram @awata.taonga which is where we will be posting our designs and ways to purchase our taonga in the next week.
