Karikari Ki-o-Rahi
On Wednesday this week selective Karikari pononga travelled to Lincoln High School for some whakawhanaungatanga.
This year Whaea Geri (Karikari Kaiarahi) organised with a teacher from Lincoln High School for a whakawhanaungatanga day between our year 9 and 10's and theirs. They planned for the day to revolve around Ki-o-Rahi, in preperation for the tournament on the 2nd of December.
On the 9th of November, the year 9 and 10's travelled to Lincoln to build friendships with that school. To start the day the kura split up into teams and participated in a kahoot about Ki-o-Rahi. It was a fun way to learn about the rules, tikanga and history of the kemu before doing any physical work.
After the Kahoots were over they all went outside and did some drills to warm themselves up. Once ready, everybody split off into completely random groups, merging the two kura together, and played two Ki-o-Rahi games. There was great sportsmanship and whakawhanaungatanga during these two games.
After this they gathered for a shared lunch. The lunch was good and overall the day was very fun. Te Pā are hoping to get together a team of pononga to enter into the upcoming junior tournament.
