The new home of sport in Christchurch is once again living up to its reputation as the ultimate community hub, bringing together 191 Canterbury and West Coast schools for the Primary Schools Athletics Championships run by Primary Sports Canerbury.

Our pononga who took part placed in their school athletics day, advanced to their local Zone competition, and then qualified for the Primary Athletics Championships event held at Ngā Puna Wai.

The Championships bring together the top athletes from all over Canterbury, with schools represented ranging from Ashburton to Hanmer Springs and the West Coast. Having a world-class venue, all-weather track and specialised throws area adds to the excitement for Canterbury kids.

We had three of our tamariki who made top placings in Eastern Zones Athletics, Kahurangi Foster, Nikau Kaa-Mackie and Elepise Tupai and then qualified to participate in the Primary School Canterbury Zones.

Kahurangi and Elepise both attended Canterbury Zones and did amazing.

Kahurangi placed 6th in Canterbury Shot put for Year 7 Boys.

Ellipse Tupai placed 9th in Canterbury Shot put for Year 6 Girls.

Mīharo korua. We are all very proud of you.
