Road to Rangaihi Primary Kapa Haka Regional Competition
The energy and passion for Kapa Haka is alive throughout Te Pā o Rakaihautū! Since our humble beginnings in 2015, Kapa Haka continues to be an integral part of our everyday life at Te Pā.
Rere kau atu ana ngā mihi ki ngā pononga i whakapau kaha, i whakapau werawera i ngā wiki e rima kua taha ake nei.
For the past 5 weeks, there have been a series of trials where 100 pononga in the Primary section of our Pā (Yr4-8) have been working hard in the pursuit to represent our Pā at the Rangaihi Regional Primary Kapa Haka Competitions later this year.
The energy and passion for Kapa Haka is alive throughout Te Pā o Rakaihautū! Since our humble beginnings in 2015, Kapa Haka continues to be an integral part of our everyday life at Te Pā. Providing opportunities for our pononga to perform at ngāhau and competitive levels are all platforms where rich learning experiences take place.
This year will be the first time in 10 years that a Primary School Kapa Haka Regional Competition will take place here in Waitaha. Each region must hold a regional competition to be eligible to compete in the Mana Kuratahi National Primary School Kapa Haka Competition held bi-annually.
Should we successfully qualify for Mana Kuratahi 2019, the best representation of Te Pā o Rākaihautu will take the stage and represent the Waitaha Region.
This term the Competitive Kapa Haka Team will be selected to compete at the Rangaihi Primary School Kapa Haka Regional. The process is as follows:
After a series of trials over a 5 week period Te Ohu Whakahaere (Team of Tutors) will hand pick approximately 60 of the best performing pononga in the Primary section of our Pā (Yr1-8) to trial for the Competitive Team.
A maximum of 40 pononga are allowed to perform in the Competitive Team on the day. The final selection will be made by Te Ohu Whakahaere
We want to acknowledge the hard work and determination our Senior Kapa Team have continued to demonstrate during their campaign to Nationals.
Your teina are inspired and proud of you all. The efforts, passion, determination, resilience and courage are all noticed by your teina. They can’t wait to be apart of the legacy you all are carving for them as they are wanting to make you proud aswell.
E tika ana te kōrero, “mā te tuakana te teina e tōtika, mā te teina te tuakana e tōtika.”
Kōkā Horowai,
Te Ohu Whakahaere.
