Why We Are Not a Charter School
The importance of reading the fine print! We are a Sec 156 Designated Character School
You will have seen recent publicity about Partnership Schools (sometimes referred to as Charter Schools) being closed by the current Government.
Fortunately this does not affect us in any way as Te Tautarinui - after reading the fine print - decided not to take this path when we were establishing Te Pā given the risks and political uncertainty surrounding this new model.
We instead opted for the more established Sec 156 Designated Character legal structure.
This option has been around for a number of years and is what schools like Discovery (now Te Aotawhiti), Rudolph Steiner and Montessori established under.
We also went one step further to protect our kaupapa (special character) by applying for an alternative constitution that was approved by the Minister in 2017.
If you want to know more about our special character and alternative constitution you can find them both on line at https://gazette.govt.nz/notice/id/2014-go1232 and https://gazette.govt.nz/notice/id/2017-go2419
