New Entrants/Cohort Entry

Cohort entry is when new entrants start school at the start of each school term, in groups throughout the year, rather than on their fifth birthday.

New Entrants/Cohort entry

From 2018 Te Pā introduced cohort entry for new entrants.  With whānau consultation and consultation with our primary early childhood centres there was unanimous support for introducing co-hort entry at Te Pā.

When can my tamaiti start kura?

Your tamaiti’s start date depends on when your tamaiti’s birthday falls, They must be 5 on the first day of kura. Therefore their birthday must be on or before the first day of the school term.

You can always choose to delay your tamaiti’s start until the beginning of a later term, or until they are 6 if you are concerned about their readiness for school.
