From the Acting Principal
Kia ora,
Summer tournament week is upon us, and we have had over 100 students out and about around New Zealand competing in a huge number of sports. We have had plenty of positive feedback coming in and numerous successes on field (and in/on the water), with plenty also competing over the weekend. There are always ups and downs in sport (which is what makes it such an incredible learning and development opportunity for young people); sometimes it is worth remembering why we compete, and ensure that as adults supporting our ākonga, we remind them of the friendships and connections they build, the mental and physical health benefits of moving our bodies, the confidence competing can inspire, and the sense of achievement that comes with just being out there. We live in a country where opportunities for young people to be involved in sport are vast, and I am grateful and proud of our ākonga for getting involved.
There has been a lot going on over the last two weeks, including our equestrian students taking out national titles at Horse of the Year in the Hawkes Bay, our swimming competitors breaking records at swimming sports, our cricket team playing outstandingly well at their regional qualifier, and celebrating Love Week - helping to bring our kura together and raise funds for the Love Somebody Charity. Well done to all involved!
You will have received the ticket release email last week for our joint senior production with Christ’s College, ‘Anything Goes’. The show runs from 15 – 18 May and is taking place in the Christ’s College Auditorium. The show is a classic musical with plenty of dance, laughs and scandal – a recipe for a great night (or afternoon) out – tickets are available here.
A reminder that next week for the Easter weekend, Rangi Ruru will be closing at 12.30pm on Thursday, 28 March for boarding LPCs, and will also be closed after the long weekend on Tuesday, 2 April. We will be having our special Easter Communion Service with students on Monday next week.
I wish you all an enjoyable and safe Easter.
Ngā mihi,
Stephanie Barnett
Acting Principal
