Green Tips from the Sustainability Council

Rosetta Brown - Head of Sustainability —

Tetra Pak cartons designed to contain liquid such as juice, milk and coconut water are not able to be recycled in Christchurch. These need to go in red landfill bins.

Like disposable coffee cups and milkshake cups that have plastic polyethylene or waxed inner coatings to make them waterproof, Tetra Pak cartons are not able to be recycled at our local facility as they are made from a combination of materials. Tetra Pak cartons are made of paperboard, polyethylene (plastic) and aluminium, so they are not biodegradable or recyclable alongside paper or cardboard.
For further information on what goes in each bin, we encourage you to down load the CCC Bins app.
