Rangi Ruru Preschool Proposal

Nicki Carter —

Kia ora koutou,

You may have recieved an email earlier this week that the Board of Governors has made the difficult decision to proceed with the proposal to close the Rangi Ruru Preschool. The final day of operation will be 19 December 2025.

For the past 35 years, the preschool has been part of the fabric of the Rangi Ruru community. Originally established to support the Rangi Ruru Early Childhood College’s teacher training programme, which closed in 2014, the preschool has continued to operate under the school’s Board of Governors, providing an important and valued connection within our whānau.

The decision to close reflects the Board’s ongoing strategic focus of Rangi Ruru Girls’ School as a Years 7 to 13 learning environment. In addition, the regulatory environment governing the Preschool differs significantly from that of the senior school, requiring separate compliance, reporting, operational systems and the management of increasing operational complexity and risk associated with operating an early childhood centre.

Decisions like this are never easy. We acknowledge the connection that many in our community have to the preschool, and the special role it has played as part of the wider Rangi Ruru community for more than three decades.

Ngā mihi maioha,

Nicki Carter
