Georgina Jolly (Year 13) wins Visual Arts Award

Kate Rivers —

Congratulations to Georgina Jolly, winner of the Windsor Gallery Canterbury Secondary School Art Award, 2019. Mahi tino!

Judges, Blair Jackson (Director of Christchurch Art Gallery Te Puna o Waiwhetū) and Aaron Kreisler (Head of Fine Arts, University of Canterbury Te Whare Wānanga o Waitaha) awarded Georgina's stunning painting 1st place in the award, run by Windsor Gallery.

The Windsor Gallery and sponsors gave Georgina a very generous prize package and Rangi Ruru received a $200 voucher for framing. We thank the Windsor Gallery for this and for supporting young artists in our community.

Georgina confidently uses rich, vibrant colour and gestural, expressive mark in her paintings of family. Hazel White also has a beautiful, bold abstracted landscape in the exhibition.  The show runs until 19 September at 386 St Asaph Street.

I would like to acknowledge the many hours Hazel and Georgina have given to others this year running after school Extension Art on Fridays.
