Dr Sandra Hastie —

What a week for New Zealand! Gathering around the TV to watch Te Rehutai and Team New Zealand racing for the Auld Mug over the last week brought back fond memories of our defence in 2000. Some of our own Rangi boats have already headed away to Lake Karapiro for the 2021 Maadi Cup, with the squad following tomorrow. I wish all those competing in Tournament Week next week the very best. Competition and the hard work that goes alongside it is an important part of development for our young people, and win or lose, top team or social, the Rangi teams and individuals I head along to watch always makes me very proud. Annabelle Schneideman (Year 13, Head of Community) put it so well in her Open Day address recently, when referring to her experience in the Hockey 1st XI, "The spirit is there when we run in and celebrate as the final whistle blows, and it is there as we regroup after a loss, knowing we have to keep our chins up as we will always be proud of the blue dress."

Congratulations to our girls who took part in the Canterbury Polyfest last weekend as part of the Rangi Ruru/Burnside High School combined group. The entire group showed tremendous skill and discipline as they moved through their items and their beautiful pieces were clear and harmonious; and Elisah Vili-Umaga performed a fantastic Taualuga.

Last weekend we also travelled to Wanaka for the local A&P Show, and hosted our annual Wanaka Roadshow. Thank you to all of our current families who visited us at both events; it was great to see so many of our Central Otago community.

Yesterday we had our 'Plan Bee' Clan Athletics, with plenty of healthy competition and Clan spirit on display - you can see some images of the day here. Well done to all the Clan leaders and staff who made this special day happen.

Tonight our PTA have put together a wonderful evening for Year 7 to 10 parents and caregivers here at Rangi. The ‘PTA Mix and Mingle’ will kick off at 7pm and run until 9pm, and is free to attend. Have a great night to all those attending.

Ngā mihi
