The Art of Reuse

Kate Rivers —

Visual Arts students saved the sturdy brown paper bags their art kits came in. These are being reused for Open Day. Each bag has a current students artwork on it.

Visitors to Rangi on Open Day will be given a beautiful bag of their choice featuring an artwork by current Rangi students. Inside will be information directing families to online booklets relating to enrolment and notes on our sustainability initiatives.
The Art Department have worked closely with our supplier Gordon Harris, to reduce waste and consider ways to reduce carbon associated with getting kits of art materials to each student. We requested as little plastic and packaging as possible and that all kits are delivered to school in bulk where we will distribute them. This saves significantly on the impact of delivering goods separately to hundreds of families. Our initiatives have had a follow on effect with Gordon Harris considering environmental impact and making changes.
The remaining brown bags from 2019 kits will be returned to be reused next year.
As part of Open Day and the House and Garden Tour, student artworks will be exhibited in the Baird Gallery in a show called 'The Art of Reuse'
