Senior Production

Peter Rutherford —

Opening night Monday 10 May. Tickets available below!

Rangi Ruru and Christ’s College present their theatrical co-productions of Shakespeare’s comedy, As You Like It and Sophocles tragedy, Oedipus Rex.

Playing on alternate nights at the Old Boys' Theatre at Christ’s College, these two plays involve the talents of senior students from both schools. In 'As You Like It', directed by Nikki Bleyendaal and Peter Rutherford, we invite you to journey with Rosalind and her cousin Celia into the Forest of Arden as they navigate a new life beyond the dangerous underworld of Duke Frederick, and as Rosalind seeks love and joy with the like-wise banished Orlando. What awaits them in the forest? Freedom? Foolery and frivolity? Only the swift foot of time will tell!  'As You Like It' is performed Monday 10, Wednesday 12 and Friday 14 May at 7.00pm and is two hours plus an interval.

In 'Oedipus Rex', directed by Robyn Peers, Oedipus - having rid Thebes of the Sphinx who has been destroying anyone who cannot answer its riddle - is crowned King and married to Jocasta, the recently widowed Queen of Thebes. Our play begins many years later, when the city is suffering from plague and famine. Searching for solutions Oedipus sends his brother-in-law Creon to ask the Oracle at Delphi to help them. The Oracle’s answer will confound Oedipus and devastate all their lives. Oedipus Rex is 75 minutes and is performed on Tuesday 11, Thursday 13 and Saturday 15 May at 7.00pm.
