Sandra Hastie —

Heading into Term 4 of 2020, with warmer weather and extended sunlight hours, I must say there is a feeling of optimism and energy in the air here at Rangi. As we look back on what can only be described as character testing Terms 1 to 3, I am excited looking into Term 4 with a number of special events and activities taking place. Term 4 of course brings with it the pressures of the NCEA examination period, and for our Year 13’s a sense of the end of something special - their formal years at Rangi. We are very aware that whilst this time of year often brings celebration and joy, there are a range of emotions amongst our girls and their wellbeing remains our absolute priority.

October is a fun filled month with great opportunities to celebrate being part of the Rangi Ruru whānau. The Spring Soiree and other events such as Friends at Five Thirty, and Grandparents’ and Generations’ Day are all taking place in the coming weeks. The Spring Soiree promises to be a fabulous evening, Friends at Five Thirty will inspire you and Grandparents’ and Generations’ Day is always a special time to celebrate families. With so few opportunities to come together to celebrate in 2020, I encourage you to join us on these special occasions. Further information and registration for these events can be found here. I am also pleased to announce the dates for our Prize Giving (3 December) and Leavers’ Communion (6 November) are now confirmed. Further information will be sent on these events closer to the dates.

You will have likely seen the update from our Board Chair, Nicki Carter (read here) sharing the exciting news that our Sports and Multi-Purpose Centre has been signed off by the Board of Governors, with building to commence early in 2021. This new facility, located on Hewitts Road adjacent to the sports field, is the next stage in the Project Blue Sky masterplan. Not only will this new facility house our Physical Education and Sports programmes under one roof, but it will also be a space where we can comfortably gather as a school community for such things as assemblies. We will also be able to hold large performances and events including the Leavers’ Ball in this space, which is exciting as we often have to go offsite for such things. We are fortunate to have a forward looking Board committed to providing our students with a state of the art campus, and I thank Nicki and the Board for their vision.

I look forward to seeing you all at one of the above events.
