From the Principal

Dr Sandra Hastie —

I hope you and your family have enjoyed the three week break, had time to unwind and relax, and prepare for Term 2. My husband Bruce and I took some time to cycle 304km of trails and roads on the Alps 2 Ocean Cycle Trail from Aoraki Mount Cook to Oamaru. Although we did have some powered assistance (via e-bikes) it was a unique and challenging experience, and a great opportunity to disconnect from Wifi and emails for a few days. Highly recommended!

This term we welcome our new Assistant Principal Teaching and Learning, Melissa Campbell to Rangi. Melissa joins our Senior Management Team and brings a wealth of experience to our school. Most recently Melissa has been Head of Teaching and Learning English and Humanities, and Assistant Housemaster of Corfe and Richards House at Christ’s College. Prior to her ten years at Christ’s College, Melissa has held positions at Marian College, Roncalli College and St Thomas of Canterbury College. Please join me in welcoming Melissa to our whānau.

Over the past three days our school has been abuzz with the Aotearoa New Zealand Association of Art Educators' Conference, with over 400 delegates onsite each day! We have enjoyed seeing so many enthusiastic and motivated educators on our site and colourful and creative activities taking place.

A reminder, if you are thinking about a venue for an upcoming event, our facilities are available for hire outside of school hours and during the term breaks, including for conferences, a variety of events and accommodation (in our boarding house). If you are interested or would like to know more contact our Venue Manager, Eddie Cropley here.

We have had a great response so far to our Senior Productions ‘As You Like It’ and ‘Oedipus Rex’ taking place from 10 – 15 May at the Christ’s College Old Boys' Theatre. You can secure your tickets from our website here.

Millie Trusttum (Year 12) is a member of the 2021/2022 NZ Secondary Students' Choir. The choir has this week sung at the State Memorial Service for the Duke of Edinburgh, at the Wellington Cathedral of St Paul, attended by the Prime Minister, and Governor General, Dame Patsy Reddy. On Sunday 25 April, the choir will sing at the National Anzac Commemoration at 11.00am at Pukeahu National War Memorial Park, also in Wellington, where Millie will perform a solo - an amazing experience and opportunity for Millie.

Anzac Day in 2020 was, for most of us, standing quietly out at our front gate and perhaps sharing a morning coffee with neighbours from a distance. In 2021 we can again come together as communities to remember those who have given so much for our country. We can be grateful for so much and we will always remember them.
