Dr Sandra Hastie —

This week we have been thinking of the families in our community impacted by the recent weather events. Some of our rural families have a huge task ahead of them getting land back to full operation and our thoughts are with you all.

Last Friday we celebrated Founders’ Day (you can see the full recording here, and a photo gallery here). Our Archives Manager, Johnann Williams, spent considerable time gathering historic Rangi uniforms which our Year 7 students (as well as 4 year old Ngaio who modeled our historic ‘infant uniform’) did a fantastic job of modelling in a fashion show style presentation at Assembly. Recognising and celebrating our history is so important, especially for our younger generations – this can be a challenge in the world of ‘here and now’, so events dedicated to remembering are special times for reflection. Thank you to all those involved. On Sunday 23 May we hosted a large number of families at our Harvest Festival Clan Services – thank you to those who donated goods and those who joined us, they were wonderful services.

Our popular community speaker series Friends at Five Thirty is getting underway with the first event taking place on Monday 28 June, from 5.30pm would you believe! The guest speakers include Jessy Moffatt – Rangi Old Girl and co-founder of the Coast to Coast Rangers, youth advocate and ultrarunning buff; Jonathan Wallis – business director, high country farmer, helicopter pilot and father of two Rangi girls, and Renee De Luca – apiculture champion, passionate lifetime learner, business director, éclair queen and Rangi mum. More info and tickets, which are $15 can be purchased here. Get in quick as these always sell out.

I would like to wish those students taking part in The Big Sing Regional competition at the Town Hall next week all the best. I know there has been a huge amount of preparation go into this and we are all excited to see and hear the performance!

Enjoy your long weekend.
