Let’s hear it for our sensational senior sportswomen!

The depth in our senior sporting talent was reflected by our significant representation at the 2025 Zonta Canterbury Secondary School Sports Awards last night.  We couldn’t be prouder of the recognition earned for dedication, excellence, and leadership in sport.

Highly Commended Awards were presented to:

  • Most Outstanding Team: Our Rowing U18 – 4 - Brooke Harper, Tallulah Nelson, Izzie Jones, Charlotte Gorman and Grace O’Connor

  • Most Valued Contribution to a Team: Greta Jenkins

  • Contribution to Sports Administration: Sophie Johnstone

From 152 nominations we were had the following 2025 finalists….

Most Outstanding Team: U18 – 4, national title for U18 – 4.

Best Allrounder: Brooke Harper, collegiate scholarship rowing, netball representative and athletics champion.

Best All Rounder: Charlotte Gorman, New Zealand skiier, South Island rower and water skiier.

Most Valued Contribution to a Team: Greta Jenkins, 1st XV Hockey and Student Head of Sport.

Most Valued Contribution to a Team: Marisa Reeg, 1st XV Hockey.

Contribution to Sports Administrator: Sophie Johnstone, netball umpire.

Contribution to Sports Administration: Charlotte Fahey, netball umpire, volleyball referee and manager of school volleyball and basketball teams.

Most Outstanding Achievement in One Sport: Zoe Crisp, New Zealand and Canterbury water polo player.

Most Outstanding Achievement in One Sport: Lucy-Jane Hart, New Zealand ice hockey player

Most Outstanding Achievement in One Sport: Charlotte Chiles, New Zealand triathlete competing on elite women's international circut.

Most Outstanding Achievement in One Sport: Issy Carr, New Zealand Mixed U18 Touch Team who won Asia Pacific Youth Touch Cup.

Student Spotlight

Futsal

Millie Clarke (Year 11) was selected for the U15 Canterbury Pride Futsal Team to represent Canterbury at the Youth Nationals in Wellington this December! Before that, Millie will compete for Cashmere at the U17 Western Springs Football Tournament, and then head to the Gold Coast in January with her Gosal Academy U15 team.

Fencing

Congratulations to Emily Burt who competed in the Oceania and NZ National Open & Veteran Championships 2025, held in Auckland. In the Senior Women's Epee Emily gained 18th Place which put her in the Mid South Regional A team.  Along with her team members they fenced their way to silver medals, second only to Australia.

Golf

Our golfers have had a brilliant year. Congratulations to up and coming golfer Angela Sun (Year 9) and Vanessa Lim (Year 11) who were part of the Russley Golf Club team that won the 2025 Pollock Cup, Canterbury’s most prestigious women’s interclub golf event.

Eva Yin (Year 11) played for the Christchurch Golf Club who placed a commendable 3rd in the Pollock Cup.

Vanessa and Eva were members of the Canterbury U19 team who attended Interprovincials in Rotorua recently. They placed 2nd and Vanessa was named Player of the Tournament.

Ice Hockey

Congratulations to Tessa Langman (Year 13) who has been selected in the U18 New Zealand Women’s Ice Hockey team travelling to Turkey in January. She is joined by Lucy-Jane Hart (Year 11) who has also been selected by Ice Hockey New Zealand for the 2025-2026 International Development programme in Toronto.

Iceskating

Holly Brooks (Year 9) and Izzy Hack (Year 13) were proud medalists at the recent New Zealand Ice Figure Skating Championships. Holly competed in the Juvenile Girls Free Skating category and placed 2nd overall. Izzy won a bronze medal in the Adult Bronze Women – Free Skating category.

 

Multisport

Lucy Peoples (Year 9) was the winner of the JD Duathlon Series (Junior Female 13–15 years) after competing in four races - including one on the same day as the Canterbury Secondary Schools Duathlon! Lucy has joined the Canterbury Tri Development Squad this term and is training toward the South Island Schools Triathlon Champs in Oamaru and the Tri NZ Schools Nationals in Tauranga next March.
