Sandra Hastie —

We could not be happier to have welcomed over 150 new students to our whānau last week. We are already seeing the impact they are making to life here at Rangi - each one of our new students bringing their own unique and special character to our school. A warm welcome to all of our new families – we are looking forward to getting to know both you and your daughters over the coming years. A great opportunity to meet other families in your daughter’s year group is to attend some of our events. We have Year Group Parent Evenings taking place currently, and a number of other opportunities to engage with the community – you can see more information about these here.

Last Friday our Student Senior Leaders announced their theme to the school. There was a definite buzz around the Church at the Assembly, with the announcement of ‘Thrive in the Hive’ as the theme for 2021. Sam Senior (Head of School) and her team did an incredible job developing and communicating the theme, with the idea of Rangi being a Hive for the many student bees, who all work together to achieve more than any individual ‘bee’ could, whilst ‘thriving’ in their own way. It was a great start to the year! You can see photos from the Senior Leaders Assembly here.

The Rowing Squad has had a very strong season to date, taking out 7 golds and 4 silvers at the recent South Island Club Championships. Combined with strong results at the Canterbury Champs in mid-January, the squad has had a solid platform for their build up to the Maadi Cup at Lake Karapiro from 22 - 27 March. Well done girls, coaches and supporters and a big thank you to our rowing sponsors PAK'nSAVE Wainoni, ThermaTech, Forsyth Barr, Sun Smart, Pye Group, Au Natural Skinfood, Alpine Helicopters, Matson & Allan Real Estate, Minaret Station and Brannigans. You can see photos of the of the South Island regatta here

Our Careers and Pathway Strategist, Kristen Fox (Crimson Education) is unfortunately leaving her position here at Rangi shortly. We are delighted to welcome Kristin Schumacher as her replacement. I would like to thank Kristen Fox for the amazing work she has done with our past and present students.

Open Day is now three weeks away (Friday 26 February) and we are excited to have already received registrations from over 90 families. We do have limited places for the day, so please refer any interested friends or colleagues to our website for more information.

Enjoy the long weekend.

Ngā mihi nui
