The Rangi community help with floral tributes

Kate Rivers - Director of Sustainability —

Thank you to students, staff and whānau who gave their time over the break to help staff at the Botanic Gardens separate flowers, wrapping and cards following the mosque shootings.

In the weeks following the mosque shootings, Rangi students contacted the CCC to offer help separating flowers and cards from plastic wrapping.

With the support of the Muslim community the process of carefully removing some of the many floral tributes left outside the mosques and Botanic Gardens began. The tributes were sensitively sorted in the Arts Centre, with cards kept, flowers composted and wrapping re-used where possible.

Rangi Sustainability teams also provided morning and afternoon tea for the volunteers. The City Council have passed on thanks to all involved.
