From the Principal

Sandra Hastie —

I’m writing this update from our beautiful campus, a campus that has been so very different over the past six weeks.

We are looking forward to having our wonderful girls and staff onsite next week and have spent a significant part of the last week preparing to ensure your daughters’ return is safe, enjoyable and as non-disruptive as possible.

As we move back into our classrooms, onto our sports fields and seeing friends and colleagues, it is important we focus firstly on the wellbeing of our girls and staff, and allow time for them to connect. I would encourage you to speak with your daughter about how she is feeling about returning to school; at school we have a number of initiatives on top of our day-to-day focus on wellbeing for the first few weeks back. The message ‘Be You, Be Safe, Belong’ will be one that we are reinforcing to all of our girls and staff.

You will have seen in our update on Tuesday (read here) we have an increased focus on health and safety, and hygiene, and girls will not be returning to school as it was pre-Covid. The girls will be given additional information around their requirements on Monday.

Family Clan Chapel Service

Our Family Clan Chapel Service planned for Sunday 24 May is now cancelled due to gathering restrictions. The service will now form part of the normal school assembly streamed to the girls on Monday 25 May, however families will unfortunately not be able to attend.

Thank you

The last two months have been a challenge, and having daughters holidaying and learning from home whilst under lockdown has no doubt had its ups and downs for our families. I have spoken with a lot of our parent community over the past few weeks, and the overriding message is that this is a team effort. As a school we play a small part in the support network for our students, which is grounded in such supportive and nurturing home environments. I want to thank you all for supporting your daughters through these times - we are truly grateful.

Goodbye and welcome

Finally, last week we said goodbye to Neil Templeton our Business Manager, who has retired after 21 years of service. I would personally like to thank Neil for his significant contribution to Rangi, especially over the Earthquakes and recent months during the Covid-19 crisis. There is a further article in this edition of Intouch on Neil. As we farewell Neil, we welcome Melanie Cropp to the position of Financial Controller. Melanie joins us from Meadow Mushrooms where she was the Finance Manager. I would like to welcome Melanie to the Senior Management Team and Rangi family - we are excited to have her on board.
