Dr Sandra Hastie —

I hesitate to focus my update in this edition on Covid, as we are all well versed in the issues of sliding between alert levels, and the challenges the situation brings. Instead I would like to focus on the incredible way our students have remained so positive, and again shown such resilience in the face of another round of cancellations, postponements and ‘unknowns’. Thank you to all the staff and students who assist with planning and replanning many events and activities. Last Friday under Alert Level 1, we hosted 180 prospective families through our school for Open Day, who were guided on their school tours by Years 10, 12 & 13 students. I had the opportunity to speak with many of these families, and the overwhelming feedback was how calm, positive and grounded their tour guides were. I could not have been prouder – thank you girls.

Recently we have continued with our Years 7, 8 and 9 camps which have been fantastic. I have joined many of the groups on camp this year and it has been great to witness relationships blossom and plenty of learning taking place in some stunning locations (see photo above).

Our wonderful PTA have been busy lately, assisting with Open Day and planning a very special evening for Years 7 – 10 parents and caregivers, the ‘PTA Mix and Mingle’. This is a complimentary event taking place on Friday 19 March from 7.00pm to 9.00pm in our Gibson Centre – I strongly encourage you to come along, meet some of your daughter’s friends parents, and enjoy a cocktail or two! You can register for the event here.

A reminder that if you have a younger daughter who you would like to enrol in Rangi for 2022 or beyond, to contact our Enrolments Team as soon as possible (if you have not already). Our Years 7 & 9 applications for 2022 are well over the amount of places we have available so please do not leave this any longer as places cannot be guaranteed.

Finally, we have had a number of parents discuss with us recently the decision other schools in our region have made to remove NCEA Level 1 from their Year 11 qualification. I would like to affirm our robust dedication to the New Zealand curriculum and NCEA at all three levels. We have written a brief outline of reasoning behind our position, which you can find here. Please contact us if you would like to discuss this in more detail.
