Week 8, Term 3 2019

Rangi Ruru Te Reo Maori Week

You will have noticed that the title of this week’s Intouch is in Te Reo. We are continuing to celebrate Maori Language Week next week throughout the school.

School Strike 4 Climate March - 27th September, 1.00pm

I am sure that many of you are aware of the rally that is planned on Friday 27th September at 1.00pm in Cathedral Square. This rally has a focus on families coming together for a common cause which aims to put pressure on the New Zealand government and governments worldwide to take effective action to combat the impacts of climate change. As a school which is a leader in sustainability and with such an active student body, we appreciate that a number of students and families will want to take the opportunity to attend the event. School will close on the last day of term - September 27th at 12.55pm. Please note that if your daughter chooses to attend this rally on her own or with her peers the school will not be responsible for her.

Although lessons are not scheduled for the afternoon there will be supervision for girls until the normal end of the school day if they are not able to leave at 12.55pm.

Tournament Week

I had the pleasure last week of supporting our 1st X1 Football team in Timaru and the 1st X1 Hockey team in Auckland. There was an immense feeling of pride as I watched the way that our girls represented Rangi. Determination, teamwork, and above all their positive support for each other was a joy to witness and left me with a smile on my face at seeing again first-hand the “sisterhood” in action. I would also like to add my thanks to the parents who were able to take time away from their busy lives to support the teams. Having such fantastic side-line support was so appreciated by the teams and I know inspired them on to give of their very best effort. My thanks also to the coaching staff and managers who also had time away from their families. It is a big ask to travel away with our girls and at all times to ensure their well-being - to each and everyone of you I also offer my thanks.

The Tournament Results are as follows:

  • Senior A Basketball – 3rd at South Island Secondary Schools' Championships
  • 1st XI Hockey – 7th at the Federation Cup in Auckland
  • 1st XI Football - finished 7th in the Gary Sowden Tournament with Sam Senior named as one of the winners of the Golden Boot Award for most goals scored
  • Senior A Netball - finished 14th at South Island Secondary Schools' Championships
  • 2nd XI Hockey - finished 6th in the Chris Arthur Cup
