Invitation to join Kapa Haka

Rosetta Brown and Miriam Shipley —

On Monday 6th May Rangi Kapa Haka start a new chapter towards preparing for Polyfest next year. We invite students to come along and have a go. No experience required!

The session on Monday will be all about whakawhanaungatanga (getting to know each other and having lots of fun!).

Rangi Ruru's Kapa Haka group is well known for delivering passionate and polished performances and have received many accolades over the years. Our group are highly respected and well loved up at Polyfest in Auckland, Christchurch and at Tuhono. We have performed on both the Maori and Samoan stages. We invite you on the journey with us, as we start to prepare for powhiri, blessing ceremonies, local cultural concerts, prize giving and Polyfest 2020.

Kapa Haka is on Mondays from 3.40pm-5.00pm with longer sessions leading up to performances. Afternoon tea is provided and we meet in Helen Kitson. This is a great chance to build leadership skills, extend understanding of tikanga Maori, learn Te Reo and Samoan language, connect and develop cultural understanding, perform, and develop close friendships with others from across year levels and from other schools.

There is nothing quite as exhilarating and empowering as taking to the stage with this group. We are incredibly proud of the way our group support each other and work together to continually strive to reach their potential. We have a great team of teachers to help us. The highly respected Matua Kahukuranui is back as our tutor and Ms Rivers, Rev K and Ms Matenga help as well. We also bring in specialist tutors for our Samoan performances. It would be great to have some new students join as we begin this journey! Bring a friend and have a go!
