As we look ahead to the new term, there is a valuable opportunity for students to return with a fresh mindset. This might include setting new academic goals, re-establishing healthy routines, or approaching challenges with renewed confidence. Parents can support this by having open conversations about what your daughter is looking forward to, what they might want to do differently this term, and how they can stay motivated. Even small actions - like helping them organise their study space, encouraging regular screen breaks, or celebrating small wins – can make a big difference.
Research shows what many of us know intuitively: time away from structured routines allows students to rest deeply, reset their emotional reserves, and return better equipped to learn. One area I’m particularly focused on is sleep, which plays a vital role in shaping a positive experience at school. The Sleep Foundation recommends 8–10 hours of sleep for adolescents each night, which can significantly improve concentration, memory, and mood – ensuring this is prioritised is something we can all do to help our young people.
Looking ahead to Term 3, we’re excited to return to a full calendar of opportunities for learning, connection, and celebration. Musical showcases, regional community events, winter sport finals, Grandparents’ and Generations’ Day, and of course, the return of our much-loved House Party and Sports Quiz - these events provide so many ways for our community to come together and share in the spirit of Rangi Ruru. Please check the events update in this Intouch for more information.
We are looking forward to working together with you to support your daughter in Term 3 and 4.
