Equestrian Success

Sally Goldsmith —

Term 3 has seen a massive month for our equestrian riders. The inaugural Secondary Schools' Equestrian Championships were held in Winter Tournament Week, the first time we have finally been recognised alongside other sports as a truly genuine school sport. To say our riders were excited was an understatement and 38 took up the challenge and entered a range of competitions.

Our students were fiercely competitive in their disciplines and over the week, took out a range of prizes. All the competitions were held at the National Equestrian Centre at McLeans Island with several individual class winners and overall winners. At least 35 of our riders won or were placed in their respective classes and took home hundreds of ribbons and sashes to adorn their walls.

Our 13 Rangi Ruru teams all performed extremely well. Winning teams included Champion Dressage Team overall, Champion SI Show Jumping and Champion SI Show Hunter. Individual Championships were won by Holly Hanson in Dressage Elementary and Rose Bowden in Show Jumping 95cm, and a special mention to Sonya Benison for winning all four 105cm jumping classes.

Congratulations to all those involved and we can't wait for next year.
