From the Principal

Dr Sandra Hastie —

A huge thank you to all of you who supported our school last Tuesday on Giving Day. The $314,831 raised from 442 donors is the most Rangi Ruru has ever raised in a single fundraising initiative and a fantastic sign of our school spirit. The funds will go towards Atawhai, which will be operational in Term 3. As part of Giving Day, we ran a Clan competition, with Glamis coming out on top raising $54,395! As a result the #1 seat in Atawhai will be named Glamis and current students in Glamis will be the very first students to enter the building. Well done Glamis, and thank you all again for supporting this transformational project on Giving Day.

On another celebratory note, it was so nice to host parents and guests at our Term 2 Awards Assembly on Monday (you can watch a recording of the live stream here). These assemblies are a special part of celebrating success in many areas here at Rangi Ruru, and I congratulate those who received awards–you are all inspiring!

On Thursday June 30, we are hosting our Careers & Pathways Exploration Evening (4pm – 6pm), where students and whānau from all year groups will have the opportunity to meet with professionals and university/polytech students from a wide array of industries, fields, and sectors. I would encourage you to attend and explore the event exhibitors with your daughter; these sorts of conversations can change not only the pathways students take after school, but their subject choices whilst at school. More information and registration can be found here.

After a few setbacks we are now set to host our party of the decade, House Party, on Saturday September 10 from 7pm in our historic Te Koraha. You can find out all the details here; I encourage you to get your tickets ASAP as they are already going quickly!

I trust you will enjoy this special Matariki weekend, reflect on the past year, and most importantly spend time with those you love.

Ngā mihi,

Dr Sandra Hastie
