Dear Parents and Caregivers

As we head into Term 3, we are now two weeks into our new timetable. We will be asking for feedback from parents and students on these changes in Term 4. As this is the term that rapidly disappears, please continue to keep up to date with all our news via Intouch and upcoming Events email. There are plenty of events and occasions to come together and enjoy the Rangi spirit in the next two terms. Tickets for Evita, the joint Senior Production with Christ’s College, which opens on 9 September at Christ’s College Assembly Hall, are already selling fast so don’t miss out by leaving it too late!

Love Week

This week we celebrated Love Week with many activities such as Pink/Red mufti day, warm fuzzies, Yoga and more. On Wednesday girls from Years 9 to 13 made paper planes with messages of love written on them and launched them all together on a flight path from outside of Te Koraha. A Green Market was also established on Friday with second-hand clothing, beeswax wraps and Young Enterprise stalls selling goods and a place to ‘plant your own flower seeds’. It was great to see many laughs and a lot of love from our community.

Wide Sky Link

By now you would have received your hard copy issue of our latest Wide Sky magazine in the post and the digital link to the online version. Wide Sky is produced for students, their families and the wider Rangi community to celebrate the latest successes, events, happenings and developments. We hope you have enjoyed the latest edition and have taken the chance to use the QR codes scattered throughout.

Jazz Band

Congratulations to the Jazz Band and Director, Lana Law, on achieving Gold at the ARA JazzQuest Secondary Schools’ Jazz Band Competition over the weekend. The girls have worked hard this year and have risen above the challenges of cancellations due to lockdown, by giving everything to their performance on Saturday. Special mention was made by the adjudicator of the band’s polished presentation and the tightness of the trumpet section. Well done Girls!

Out and About at Sport

Over the last few weeks, I have managed to get out and support our girls with their sport. The highlight for me was the opportunity to watch our Senior A Netball Team play the curtain raiser for the Mainland Tactix at Horncastle Arena last week against Marian. It was a tight game won by Rangi and I know this is a moment that they will treasure for some time as they also got to watch the Mainland Tactix take out an impressive win in front of a packed arena. Our 1st Xl Hockey and Senior A Basketball teams have also had wins which all bodes well for the season unfolding. I cannot help but reflect on how lucky we are as a country that we are able to take part in these experiences.

Wellington Roadshow

My first trip since COVID-19 and it was great to go to Wellington with our Director of Boarding, Kyleigh Lyth, to catch up with Old Girls, current parents and meet some prospective families. It was lovely to receive a warm welcome from our Wellington friends and a chance to connect. We are looking forward to our next Roadshows in Marlborough on Thursday 20 August and Queenstown on Friday 11 September. Please do encourage any friends or family members who are interested in attending Rangi or your Old Girl connections to come along. We look forward to meeting you.
