From the Principal
Last Friday our student leaders held Super Day, a celebration of the year that has been and a chance for all students to come together and let their hair down a little. I spent the afternoon out on the field with students and staff. After the challenges and hurdles our students have had to navigate to maintain their academic, co-curricular and social lives this year I was overwhelmed by the positivity on show. It brings me, as it should you all as parents and caregivers of our students, a huge sense of assurance that the warmth and generosity of spirit I witnessed will overcome the challenges these incredible young people have already and may face again in the future. You can see some of the photos from Super Day here.
One such challenge for our leavers is the disappointment of not being able to attend a traditional format Prize Giving or Leavers’ Ball. We are putting in a huge amount of work behind the scenes to make the Prize Givings special occasions, and I know RROGA are doing the same for the Leavers’ Ball. I thank you all for your understanding and hope you can join us for the live streaming of the Junior and Senior Prize Giving’s (details of those are here).
We are very fortunate to have our joint junior production Fame Jnr with Christ’s College taking place next week. Under Level 2 restrictions each production has been limited to a restricted audience. Most of the original 6pm shows sold out quickly and there are now 8pm shows scheduled each night – if you would like to come along you can find out more info and purchase tickets here. I would like to thank Christ’s College for their support in bringing this show to a live audience, something that would not be possible without their amazing facilities and talented students.
With NCEA examinations just around the corner, I wish all of our students the very best in their preparations. I know 2021 has not been the ideal academic year but I have every faith in our students dedication and commitment to finishing the year strongly. Thank you parents and caregivers for your support of our students over this time.
Finally, next week we will be sending you a link to our annual Parent and Caregiver Survey. This survey is one of the most important tools we use in gauging our approach to your student's education, and covers a number of areas related to our performance as a school. I ask that you please take the time to complete the survey. We very much value your input; each (anonymous) response is considered and reflected on by the school leadership team.
Ngā mihi nui,
Dr Sandra Hastie
