Sports Update

Mandy Anderson —

The term has got off to a busy start for our young sportswomen and while there have been some disappointments with recent cancellations, there are also some highlights to share.

Swimming Sports – held on a beautiful Monday afternoon last week, it was a spectacular afternoon of swimming in the school pool and finished with great Clan Spirit with the introduction of Clan Relays.

Congratulations to BRAEMAR who took out the Clan Swimming title this year and the following individual swimmers for their results:

Senior

1st Eva Matthews

2nd Eve Weston

Under 16

1st Florence Nelson (3 school records )

2nd Georgia Dann

Under 15

1st Ella Harris

2nd Addie Voight

Under 14

1st Evelyn Price (1 school record )

2nd Sophie Maxwell

Year 7/8

1st Emily Carr (3 school records )

2nd Sofia Harris (1 school record)

Athletics Sports – The uncertainty around changing Alert Levels has seen the postponement of the school wide Athletics event, which was met with lots of disappointment. We are working on a plan to hold a school clan participation event before the end of term so more information on this is to come.

Meantime girls who wish to compete at the Canterbury Secondary Schools' Athletics Championships or to earn points towards School Athletics Champions are able to attend prelims on the School Field. Girls in Years 11 to 13 wishing to do this need to sign up using the link here.

(Note – Students in Years 7 & 8 will have an opportunity to do their prelims later in the year as the CAIMS Athletic events are held in Term 4)

Sport Reminders…

- Girls need to attend weekly sports meetings on Monday and Wednesday at interval to sign up for transport and to confirm their attendance. Each week our staff regularly chase up girls who fail to attend this meeting.

- Winter Sport Trials – are now underway for Netball, Basketball and Hockey. If your daughter hasn’t yet signed up or thinks she may have missed a trial, encourage her to come see us in the Sports Office and we can help her out. Girls can sign up here.

- We encourage parents and girls to keep us informed of sport achievements and successes – particularly those that happen outside of what we offer at Rangi. We don’t always know what some girls have achieved and it’s always great to be able to celebrate and recognise our sportswomen, whatever their field of endeavour is.
