Christchurch Schools' Music Festival
Congratulations to the following Years 7 and 8 students who successfully auditioned for representative groups in the Christchurch Schools' Music Festival.

Senior Choir - Eden Peti

Orchestra - Juliet Hsu (violin), Lucy Peoples (Principal flute),Mia Wang (violin)

This is a fantastic achievement, as places in these groups are highly competitive and sought after. The students have met with their respective groups for intensive rehearsals during Term 3 in preparation for performances in the Christchurch Town Hall next week 31 October - 3 November. In addition, our Year 7 students will be taking part in the festival on Thursday, 2 November. This festival has been an annual event in Christchurch for over 80 years.

Congratulations also to Abby Fleming and Tiantian Chen, both Year 9. Abby will be playing baritone saxophone as a guest in the Concert Band. Tiantian has been appointed as the assistant percussion tutor for the Orchestra. As a past member of this group, Tiantian will be able to pass on her considerable skill as a percussionist to younger students. Tiantian is a member of Tokyo Stretto, the Rangi Ruru percussion group which was a South Island finalist after winning the Christchurch District Final of the 2023 NZCT Chamber Music Contest

Christchurch Big Band Festival
The Jazz Band was delighted to once again have the opportunity to perform at the renowned Christchurch Big Band Festival over Labour Weekend. The festival has grown to be an event going over five days, with jazz bands from all over the South Island taking part. Our Jazz Band director Lana Law was heavily involved in the event, as a player in several bands, and directing others. A great opportunity for the public to hear some fantastic Big Band Jazz over the weekend.
