Timetable

As a result of feedback, we are trialling a couple of small changes to our timetable this year to enable a more cohesive and sustained approach to our Wellbeing Programme.

‘Connecting Time’ will occur daily from 8.25-8.35am, except Wednesday, when 30 minutes of Whānau & Wellbeing Time will take place for tutor groups or year levels prior to Interval. Connecting Time provides the opportunity for Tutors and Tutor groups, to start the day together, to prepare and plan, receive important messages and follow-up on any questions, concerns and absences. Monday afternoon tutor times will be an opportunity for Form Seniors to be with tutor groups and for Years 12 and 13 to spend time in tutor groups or year levels. On Fridays, school will finish at 3.15pm and will be available for various rehearsals, practices and meetings to take place. We will review the effectiveness of this at the end of Term 1.

Uniform and Shop

On Monday 29 January Years 7 and 9 students, and on Tuesday 30 January, all students are required to arrive in full and correct summer uniform. Shoes must be brown leather lace-ups or T-bar sandals (please ensure these have had, and will continue to have, a lovely dose of shoe polish!). Plain white or RR ankle socks must be worn with lace-up shoes (sports socks are not acceptable). T or U-bar sandals may be worn without socks. Blazers are compulsory on the street and on formal occasions, except on very warm days when girls are permitted to wear short sleeves (summer terms only). Cardigans are not permitted to be worn on the street or on formal occasions without a blazer.

We believe it’s important for your daughters to develop independence and be aware of their fitness so we fully support them biking to school. There are open and covered stands as well as a bike cage. Bikes and helmets should be locked in all of these places and girls need to ask at the school office for the bike cage security code. So that your daughter is both safe and comfortable, she may opt to wear her full PE or sports uniform to and from school and change and freshen up on arrival in the gym changing rooms.

The PE uniform consists of regulation navy shorts or trackpants and a regulation Rangi Ruru sports uniform top. The PE uniform is available from The Shop in Hewitts Road. School culottes will be available from Term 2.

We are very fortunate to have Nicki Pooley managing The Shop. Click here>> for Opening Hours and other details. It is also possible to purchase a variety of second hand and other items from The Shop.

Purchases may be ‘Gold Sheeted’ (please refer to the Fees, Disbursements and Terms of Trade information), or payment may be made by cash, cheque, Visa/Mastercard/AMEX or EFTPOS.

All details are on RangiLife

Photographs

Cando card photos and individual and tutor group photos will be taken on Wednesday 30 January. Please assist us by ensuring your daughter is in full and correct summer uniform, including her blazer. Girls may not wear any non-regulation hair accessories, jewellery, make up and nail polish. Hair must be brushed and tidy, with longer hair tied back and up off the collar.

Personal belongings

We respect our environment and endeavour to keep it tidy.

Please ensure all uniform items and other personal property are clearly named as this allows us to contact girls and families to advise them that their belongings can be collected from the school office. Please encourage your daughter to check at the office, the gym, in the Lost Property and around the school if she is missing items of uniform or any other property before purchasing any replacements.

CanDo Cards

Please encourage your daughter to use this wisely in the school diningroom and keep an eye on purchases. Some parents like to place a limit on weekly spending which is easily managed. If you would like this to happen, please contact our Business Office.

Badges

These are presented to girls as rewards for performance (often external providers), and to acknowledge Leadership or Service to the school community. They are not given to denote membership of a particular team or club. Current badges only should be worn on blazers.

Upcoming Parent Events

We would love to see you at the relevant evenings. These provide the opportunity for getting to know other parents, for sharing the joys and challenges of parenting, to meet and hear from our Principal, Dr Sandra Hastie, and other important people connected with your daughter’s year group. See Key Dates for the New Entrant PTA BBQ for all new families, not just those in Years 7&9 and for Year Level Parent Evenings.

There will be no classes on Monday 11 March, which has been set aside for the Swimming Sports and interviews, but your daughter will be required to attend practices, rehearsals or other activities organised for that day. PDP interviews can also be arranged with Tutors at mutually acceptable times.

For more information on Personal Development Plans please refer to the Family Handbook (http://rangilife.school.nz/publications/handbooks/)

BYOD

All girls bring their own digital device and charger to school to support their learning and need to take responsibility for their own equipment during the school day. We expect all students to ensure lockers are locked to protect any valuable belongings during the day and that nothing of value is left in or around lockers overnight or in the weekends.

School Insurance

Please note: School insurance does not cover girls’ personal property. Please ensure valuable items are covered by your personal insurance e.g. Bikes, iPods, iPads, laptops, cellphones. For more information please refer to the Family Handbook.

Dropping off and Picking up

Please arrange a safe area to drop off and pick up your daughters, rather than in Hewitts Road or Merivale Lane, and allow them a short walk to and from school. For their and drivers’ safety, girls must use the official crossings in Rossall St.

Contact Details for Caregiver Absences

If you intend to be away for a prolonged period of time, please ensure the Tutor and Dean have an alternative contact for the person who will be responsible for decisions relating to your daughter(s) in your absence.

Communications during the Day

To support the girls in developing their self-management and self-reliance, we ask parents/caregivers not to be in contact with their daughter by phone or text during learning times. Messages can be left at the office and we will ensure your daughters receive them.

Student Appointments

Where possible, we ask that you avoid making these during school-time. If your daughter does need to leave for an appointment, please contact the school office where your daughter will need to sign out and back in on her return. If a regular appointment has to occur during the school day, please contact Stephanie Barnett, Deputy Principal, to discuss the arrangements.
